Extra Long Taper Pipe taps have longer shanks and are available in 4, 6, 8, 10 & 12 Inch overall lengths. These Taper Pipe Taps have a geometry specifically designed for threading cast iron. They are made to Table 311 dimensions. The nominal size of a Pipe Tap is that of the pipe fitting to be tapped, not the actual size of the tap. The thread tapers 3/4 of an inch per foot. NPT (American Standard Pipe Form) threads require the use of a sealer. NPTF (American Standard Dryseal Pipe Form) are used to tap fittings which will give a pressure tight joint without the use of a sealer. Chamfer is 2-1/2 to 3 threads.
